Three years ago, I ordered two climbing rose bushes fro Guerney's to plant on either side of the arch that Dale and Colin built at the top of my rock garden.
The roses came while there was still snow on the ground... I contacted Guerney's to see what I should do. They recommended placing them in a bucket of water until the ground had thawed out. We planted them when it was time. They did not grow. Just sat there and rotted. Again, I contacted Guerney's. They sent replacements the next spring. These second bushes came after the snow was gone, and we planted them according to the directions. They grew a little bit that first season, but no blooms. Dale and Colin wrapped them in burlap and piled leaves around them for winter protection. They didn't make it.
Sooooo..... we just received our third set of rose bushes! Colin researched roses on the internet, followed all the directions, and I helped him plant them this afternoon. We put them up against the house, on the side of the rock garden. There is wooden lattice there that they can climb on, if and when they actually grow.
Cross your fingers!
