Another Benchmark...

Okay, there are things that happen in your life that are milestones, benchmarks, or just plain nuisances. Today was one of the latter.

Had to drive all the way down to Camp Ripley, (2 hours away, closest military base to us) to have my I.D. card renewed to signify that I am officially an OLD person! Yes!!! When you reach my age, and receive your MEDICARE card in the mail, the military issues you a new card stating that fact. Now I am in the DEERS (DEPENDENT ENROLLMENT ELIGIBILITY REPORTING SYSTEM) system as an old fart!

I shouldn't complain, though, because this means that starting next month, Medicare will pay their share of any medical expenses I may have, and after that, TRICARE FOR LIFE will pay the rest! There is no co-pay, no premiums! This wonderful benefit is available for all retired (20 or more years in the military) and their spouses!!! Also, the lady who helped me told me that my husband and I can submit a claim to TRICARE for our share of any prescription costs for the last YEAR!

She told me that TRICARE is the best kept secret in the military as far as she is concerned. Many people don't know about it. (Including us...we found out almost by accident!) All I can say is thank heavens for some accidents!
