Memorial Day is meant to remember those who are no longer with us, who served our country. I am also including pictures of my husband and daughter, who are both, thankfully, still with us!
Our daughter, Stacy, served six years in the Navy, aboard the USS Inchon, and at the Naval Air Base in Fort Worth, Texas.
My husband, Dale Simpson. He served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years. He retired as a Master Chief, E-9. He served on four different ships, was on the Base Police Force in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba for four years, managed a recruit barracks in the Great Lakes, and was a Navy Recruiter in Duluth.
My father, Walter Stordahl, who served in Germany in World War II. He was a sniper for his unit of 54 men. He was wounded three times, helped open up the Dachau concentration camp, and was one of only 4 of his unit who survived and came home...
My maternal grandfather, who served in France as an ambulance driver during World War I.
My great-great grandfather, Amos Fisk, served in the Civil War as a drummer boy. He is the man behind the big drum.
My cousin, Rick Ewald, died while serving in Viet Nam. I'm sorry, I don't have a picture of him...
Thank you to all the men and women who proudly serve in our military. Your dedication and willingness to serve your country is very much appreciated! We are a free nation because of you!
