Marvelous Author!

As some of you know, I edit books for 'Seeing Hands'. This organization is geared toward providing Braille books for children and young adults. I have been volunteering in this work for them for about 3 years now. They send me the actual book by mail, and the scanned copy of the text by email. I 'clean up' the scanned files. During the first year, I worked mainly on books for elementary age children. Then they began sending me 'junior literature'. The books are longer, stories more in depth, and subject matter geared for older students and adults.

Recently, they sent me a copy of Kaffir Boy by Mark Mathabane. WOW!!! This young man not only survived growing up in the cruel apartheid system in South Africa, but managed to leave it with a scholarship to an American college. The book was riveting! I wanted to know more about him. I found out he has written two more books. So I am currently reading Kaffir Boy in America. Then I want to read his Miriam's Song, about his sister.

I don't often recommend books, (everyone has their own favorites), but these two books are well worth reading.
